Our Story

Forest Lumen was founded on a clear recognition that Kenya holds immense potential to lead in high-integrity, community-driven carbon solutions. Across the country, smallholder farmers and local stewards have long sustained forests and landscapes, yet their role in climate finance has remained underrepresented. We saw an opportunity to help bridge this gap combining local expertise, scientific rigor, and emerging technologies to ensure that climate solutions are both globally credible and locally grounded. Forest Lumen was created to strengthen the role of Kenyan communities in the carbon economy while advancing restoration efforts that deliver measurable environmental and economic value. From the outset, our approach has centered on partnership. We work alongside farmers as co-creators of climate solutions, aligning restoration with sustainable livelihoods and structured benefit-sharing. Our goal is to ensure communities are recognized not merely as participants, but as equal stakeholders in the climate value they help create.
